Course Summary:
Even after a few years of Medicaid Case Mix, we are still learning that accurate completion of this crucial tool is essential to a facility’s financial survival. This session will provide a targeted overview of the RUGs III 34 Group or 44 Grouper Classification System with Medicaid implications. In addition, critical areas including Part B therapy utilization, ADL/mood coding and timing of the assessments will be covered in this session.
Course Objectives:
At the completion of this session participants should be able to:
• Predict uses of the MDS data by the DOJ, OIG, FBI and MFU.
• Identify MDS items used to calculate RUGs III groups and how this affects Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement.
• Relate two ways to ensure appropriate reimbursement by improving accuracy of MDS coding.
• Select residents that would benefit from specialized therapy intervention through Medicare Part B.
• Indicate the RAI requirement for a restorative nursing program.
• Describe the link between case-mix classification and Medicaid payment.
• Explain potential documentation requirements for the reimbursement systems.
