The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) implemented the new Five-Star Quality Rating System on December 18, 2008. The process has caused confusion and anxiety for many facilities. It is difficult to understand the process by which CMS is calculating the number of stars. In addition, the staffing calculation is now based on the acuity level of residents. This workshop will give you an overview of the program, provide specific examples of survey and staffing calculations and show you strategies you can put into place in your facility to improve your rating.
